The Vatican has provoked intense debate and outrage with the release of the McCarrick Report, a 400+ page summary of the Church’s investigation into the sex crime spree of former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.
From 1993 to 2016, Cardinal McCarrick was repeatedly accused by laity, seminarians and priests from around the world of being a homosexual predator who abused and groomed boys as young as 11.
Despite credible allegations of heinous misconduct reaching the upper echelons of the Church, McCarrick continued to rapidly rise through the ranks of the clergy, being promoted to the powerful position of Archbishop of Washington DC in 2001.
According to Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, the former nuncio to the United States who has become known for his struggle against the homosexual infiltration of the Vatican, Church leadership deliberately ignored McCarrick’s crimes because of his impressive fundraising capabilities and powerful gay sympathizers. McCarrick was beloved by US media due to his left-wing activism on cultural issues and had many elite friends.
It is commonly believed that Pope Benedict XVI resigned in 2013 after being outmaneuvered in his campaign to confront the Vatican’s “gay mafia,” which McCarrick was a leading member of. Traditional Catholics are panning the McCarrick Report as nothing more than a hamfisted coverup that scapegoats deceased predecessors and protects the disgraced gay pedophile’s real enablers: Pope Francis and his homosexual Jesuit clique.
According to the Vatican’s official report, Pope John Paul II was informed of McCarrick’s immoral behavior all the way back in 1999, but refused to believe the charges out of supposed naivety. After Benedict’s election in 2005, he immediately went to war with McCarrick. Benedict met with top Vatican officials to pursue the full expulsion of McCarrick yet was mysteriously stopped from pursuing a formal canonical process.
While McCarrick resigned from his role as Archbishop in 2006, he remained a high profile representative of Catholicism in the United States even as accusations of abuse continued to pour in. The report blames his continued presence in public life on Vatican “inaction,” brazenly implying that Benedict was to blame.
Even more audacious is the McCarrick Reports claim that Archbishop Vigano was lying about having informed Pope Francis about McCarrick’s behavior and demanding action. This aspect of the document is the most transparently ridiculous.
Vigano caused ripples throughout the Catholic world when in 2018 he penned an open letter demanding Francis’ resignation for ignoring abuse accusations, actively promoting homosexual-pedophiles in the Church establishment, and even giving McCarrick himself the role of helping select Bishops. It was only after Vigano went public that McCarrick was finally put on trial and laicized in 2019. Pope Francis feigned increduility throughout the entire process.
Under Francis, openly gay Jesuit “LGBT” activists like Father James Martin, who like McCarrick is lionized by American Jewish media, continue to grow in their influence and power. The Pope has also recently come out in support of gay “civil unions.”
By framing the deceased JPII, Benedict and even Vigano for the McCarrick scandal, the McCarrick Report amounts to little more than retaliation by hierarchs against the Church’s conservative anti-corruption whistleblowers.
